Author Karen Spears Zacharias at the Albany Public Library

Author Karen Spears Zacharias will read from her new book, “Mother of Rain,” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at the Albany Public Library, 2450 14th Avenue SE.

Zacharias, a reformed newspaper reporter, teaches journalism in Washington State University. “Mother of Rain” is her sixth book and her first novel. She credits her great-aunt Lucille “Cil” Christian of Christian Bend, Tenn., for teaching her to tell stories. “Mother of Rain” evokes the spirit of Appalachian life in the 1940s.

Zacharias’ work has been featured on Good Morning America, Huffington Post, New York Times, USA Today, CNN and National Public Radio.
