Support Your Library

Thank you for your interest in supporting the Albany Public Library. There are many ways you can help support the Library. Generous donors help us provide excellent programs, materials and services to the community of Albany and surrounding area.

Our collection budget – from which we buy the books, DVDs, magazines, newspapers, and more – has been cut by 100%.  The Library no longer receives any city money for purchasing materials. We now rely entirely on fundraising to purchase all library items.

To comment on city budget cuts, contact your city councilors. For more information on the city budget process, visit the City of Albany Budget Committee website.

Albany Public Library Foundation

The Albany Public Library Foundation’s mission is to raise funds to provide an endowment to support the Carnegie Library operations and projects and support special library programs and services.

Special projects:

  • Scholarships for nonresident library cards; library cards can be expensive for the more than 800 families with children who live outside the Albany city limits.
  • Carnegie renovations such as basement upgrades of windows, floors, painting, and new electrical wiring; upgrades to modern window air-conditioners.
  • New Library fixtures.

Friends of the Library

In 1941, the Friends of the Albany Public Library was established to provide funds for programs and equipment not covered by the City budget. As the services offered by the Library continue to increase, the support of the Friends becomes ever more important.

The Friends of the Albany Public Library is dedicated to raising funds for Library materials, programs and services; encouraging and fostering reading; and supporting freedom to read.

To join the Friends, stop by the Bookstore or pick up a brochure at either Library.

Legacy Giving

A legacy gift to the Albany Public Library will leave a lasting benefit for future readers. We desire to make the most of such resources and investments. Unless specified, funds will be applied to an endowment currently managed by the Oregon Community Foundation. Interest from this trust is used to help fill the gap in materials expenses and special projects when City funds are insufficient. In this way, the Library is able to continue offering excellent services despite fluctuations in economic activity. A legacy gift gives a special connection with future generations of library patrons. Thank You.

To name the Albany Public Library in a will or trust, include a sentence similar to the following (always discuss precise wording with an attorney or financial planner.*):

I/We give and bequeath the Albany Public Library Tax ID # 93-6002114. (specified amount, specific percentage of assets, or number of shares of stock, etc.)
