How do I schedule an appointment?

For an appointment before October 12: Visit our scheduling page to make an appointment.

Appointments on or after Monday, October 12Please visit this calendar to schedule a 1-hour window in which to pick-up your holds.

How do I place holds?

Request materials by using the APL Catalog or by calling 541-917-7582 between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

How will I know my hold items are ready for pickup?

You will receive an email or text notification, based on the preference selected in your account. At that time, you will use our online form or call 541-917-7582 to schedule a pickup appointment.

To support social distancing efforts, we are offering curbside pickup only and are operating with limited staff. Staff will fill your holds placed online as quickly as possible; however, some materials requested may not be available and wait times may be longer than usual. Thank you for your patience.

How does the curbside pickup appointment system work? How do I cancel an appointment? How many appointments do I need?

We would prefer that patrons wait to receive notice of “ready for pickup” holds, rather than monitor their account online for hold availability. Due to COVID-19 precautions, holds are not completely ready until you receive notice. An appointment can be made once you have received notice. You can cancel an unneeded appointment by following a link from your appointment confirmation email, or by calling the library at 541-917-7582. Please cancel unneeded appointments to free up space for patrons with “ready for pickup” holds. You do not need to make an appointment for every hold notice that you receive. We will put all of your “ready for pick up” holds in the same bag for a scheduled appointment. If you receive a notice(s) after your pick up, you will need to make an appointment to pick up those newly “ready for pickup” holds.

How many items can I check out?

You can check out up to 10 items at this time.  Your library card must be in good standing.  If you have fines/fees of $15.00 or more, or charges for lost items, please pay online before attempting to use your library card.

Why have my holds disappeared from my holds list prior to my appointment?  Can I place more?

We prepare bags in advance.  If you check your account online before your appointment you will notice that your holds have been checked out to you shortly before your appointment.  This is normal.  You do not need to contact the library to inquire about this.  Please do not place additional holds just before arriving at the library for your appointment, and then ask library staff to get them.  Remember, we would like patrons to limit themselves to 10 items per visit per card.  We also want to respect our own safety precautions and stated procedures.

Can I schedule simultaneous pick-ups for multiple accounts that all live in the same household?

Yes, you can check out 10 items per library card, per household member with a library card.  Library cards must be in good standing (see previous question).

What if I’m early or late for my pickup window?

Early: Your items will not be ready or available until the appointed time.

Late: You will need to reschedule your pickup or  call 541-917-7582. Please do not attempt late pickups by knocking on the door or approaching staff outside of the building.

Can’t you just bend the rules?

No.  Our curbside pickup is an opt-in service.  We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who jeopardizes the safety of staff and/or patrons.  Library staff may modify or suspend the service at any time.

What if I have mobility issues and cannot leave my vehicle?

If you have mobility issues, we can provide an accommodation.  Please request this by calling us at 541-917-7582, after you have made your appointment.

What if I don’t drive or will be walking to the library?

A walk-up area will be designated.  Please schedule your pickup and call us at 541-917-7582 for special instructions.

What materials are available for pickup?

All physical materials currently on the shelf are available, including books, audiobooks, video games, DVDs, etc. The SNES Game kit is not available at this time.  No items from Linn Libraries Consortium libraries are available at this time, unless you have a previously placed hold that has been on the Holds Shelf since the library closure. Please select items from Albany Public library Main and Carnegie locations only.

How do I return materials?

The book drop is OPEN at both locations, you can return materials 24/7.  Please do not leave returned items anywhere other than the book drops. Do not try to hand them to a staff member.  Practice social distancing.  If another person is using the book drop, stay at least 6 feet away from them and give them time to clear the area before you approach to return your items.

What are you doing to protect the safety of patrons and library staff?

The contactless curbside pickup model provides maximum social distancing for the safety of our patrons and our staff. Staff will use cloth face coverings in accordance with CDC guidelines.

Patrons and staff should not approach one another and should respect the need for social distancing. This may feel uncomfortable but is necessary to provide a safe, contactless pickup service. Please remain in your vehicle until the previous patron has departed, and the library staff member bringing your items outside has reentered the building.

Are the books sanitized?

Recently returned items are being quarantined for a period of not less than 72 hours.  This is also why it may take longer than usual for some holds to become available to you.  If you are concerned, you may choose to let your materials sit for up to three days before accessing them at home.
